In Touch with Rubik’s

Experience first hand the world’s first completely interactive puzzle cube – the Rubik’s TouchCube which promises to set the next craze in electronic games concepts.

Following on from the early 80s, the original Rubik’s Cube saw players spending numerous hours in a bid to beat the cube, rotating and twisting the puzzle, desperately trying to get each side to show one specific colour. While the objective of the game remains the same, the amazing new Rubik’s Touchcube takes this the world’s most famous puzzle to a new unparalleled level.

At first glance, the Rubik’s TouchCube looks similar to the original; however there are no moveable parts and all of the six sides are interactive with the touch of your finger. Each colour rotates as you swipe your finger over the squares to mimic manual moves through touch sensor technology.

The Rubik’s TouchCube features a built-in accelerometer that allows the internal mechanism to know which side is facing up, as well as reading the speed of a finger swipe across the blocks appropriately. The sensor technology of the cube will only move squares through finger swipes on the top but also allows you to rotate the cube so that any of the sides can become the interactive top. Clever to say the least – this cube definitely has more brains than the earlier versions.

One of the downfalls with the traditional cube is that once is scrambles it stays that way until you solve it leaving many a cube in pieces after is has been launched across the room in frustration. Well not the TouchCube which comes with an internal programme to help you solve the puzzle and a built-in memory that will remember where you left off. Or if it’s just a little help you want, it will suggest your next move or take you back a step or two when you’ve messed up!

In touch with reality

The colours of the cube may be luminous but they are true to the original: Red, white blue, yellow orange and green and for aficionados who relish the soothing sound that the original puzzle makes, the Rubik’s TouchCube also has a choice of sound effects, including the sound of clicking blocks mimicking the physical activity required to turn a side.

Now for the small print…

All this technology comes at price and the cost of the TouchCube is £149.99 - it’s a luxury gift for those that have everything or for true fans of the puzzle that have to have every version available.

But even at this price getting your hands on one will not be easy as there are just a limited number for release in 2009. On sale from August from Amazon the TouchCube is available for pre-order but a waiting list is already forming. Those that want one should not delay and go to www.character-online.co.uk.
